20th Street Improvements

20th Street Continues

In 2016, the Keep Greeley Moving Program expanded 20th Street, 74th to 83rd avenues, from a two-lane county road to a four-lane arterial roadway with medians and turn lanes.

This fall the City of Greeley will continue that project and widen 20th Street west of 83rd Avenue and add curbs, gutters, sidewalks, landscaping, and a drainage system — in addition to adding a roundabout at 20th Street and 83rd Avenue.

This continuation of the 20th Street project is not entirely funded by the Keep Greeley Moving program.

The City of Greeley and the Public Works Department is proud to announce the completion of the 20th Street Improvements Project as of Friday, November 11th ahead of the projected completion date of November 28th.

The project widened 20th Street to four lanes and added left and right turn lanes from 74th to 83rd Avenue, street lighting, detached sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm sewers, bike lanes, and raised center medians along the corridor. Vehicle sight distance was also improved at the 82nd Street intersection.

Due to growth and development on west 20th Street from 71st Avenue to 83rd Avenue, there was a need to upgrade this roadway from a two-lane county road section to a four lane arterial roadway with medians and turn lanes.  This roadway was improved to meet the needs of the community and support the ongoing growth in the area. The City of Greeley 2035 Comprehensive Master Plan classified this road as an arterial.

Minor Arterials are streets that serve moderate-speed and higher-volume traffic over medium distances. Access should be restricted through prescribed distances between intersections and limited direct parcel access. Minor Arterials serve major traffic generators and link Collector streets with the Major Arterials.

The 20th Street Improvements Project widened 20th Street to four lanes and added left and right turn lanes from 74th Avenue to 83rd Avenue. The project also added lighting, detached sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm sewers, bike lanes, and raised center medians along the corridor. Vehicle sight distance was improved, which required extensive earthwork and relocation of underground utilities.
